CHILDREN’S CHARITIES GRANT APPLICATIONS MEMBER INFORMATION

2023-2024 GUIDELINES

Applying charities must:

  • use funds solely for services that benefit children from conception up to the 18th
  • be a charity based in the greater Houston area (as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget).
  • have a purpose and mission that are not contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • not use the grant for bricks and mortar, sponsor tables, or general management or fund-raising salaries.
  • use 75% or more of total income from all sources for programs and activities directly related to the charitable purposes for which the charity exists as recorded in the charity’s Form 990.
  • have an Active Charity Guild member sponsor.

 

MEMBER SPONSOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

An Active Member who wishes to invite a charity to apply for a grant must be willing to do the following:

  • Personally contact a representative of the charity and ensure that such charity meets the requirements.
  • Inform the charity that the application is available only on the Guild website: http://www.charityguildshop.org under the Grants
  • Ask the charity to list her name as sponsor only in the designated space on page 1 of the application.
  • Submit the Verification of Sponsorship form to the chair of the Children’s Charities Committee no later than 3:00 p.m. on June 10, 2023. This deadline is firm!  Sponsorship forms may also be emailed to childrenscharitieschair@charityguildshop.org
  • At least one week prior to the deadline remind the charity of the June 15, 2023 application deadline date.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Application period for the fiscal year opens March 15, 2023, and closes at 3 p.m. on June 15, 2023.
  • The deadline is firm, and the committee will not accept applications received past this deadline.
  • The committee will review all completed applications without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, or creed and received within the designated application period.
  • Each charity is required to file a Use of Funds report each year it receives a grant.
  • All Guild members will receive a list of charities recommended by the Children’s Charities Committee after the October board meeting. Active members will vote on the recommended charities at the November general meeting

 

The grant presentation event will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
